Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2001, Clos des Lambrays

Cherry red colour and a bouquet of spicy oak, compote of woodland berries and some minerality. The concentrated fruit lurks in this wine and there is a clear promise of a lot more complexity to come in the future. A delicate cassis fruit flavour with good fresh tannins and a long raspberry and cassis finish. This 2001 beats the 2000 in terms of balance and power and is superior to the 2004 due to the much riper and more pure cassis and raspberry fruit. Needs another 5 years to fully open out and for the tannin, fruit and acidity to combine into an elegant palate. Tasted at the domaine.
